After an extended focus on the physical, material human body I sought to turn my attention to the human body in a virtual setting. It is seemingly fragile, depthless, extremely thin and ultimately an illusion. Attempting to capture these qualities of the virtual body but in a physical form, I used wax—a thin, often hollow, easily breakable, and eerie mix between transparent and opaque material—to create casts of my own body. The process of cooling my skin with water to then burning it with wax reflected the paradox and the pain of something virtual attempting to become material. The several fragmented pieces allude to one larger ambiguous form. They are fragmented portions of a body that only exists in a virtual space and thus cannot be logically combined or arranged.
