Chain Link, part of my concentration on identity and interaction, examines the security and connection that exists in both the physical and emotional space created during an interaction between friends. Each painting, together forming the complete series, is hung on a different wall plane in an attempt to emulate a real conversational space. While the portraits depict the people who offer me security and connection, my visual presence has been purposefully omitted, allowing anyone to enter the interaction. The gaze of each portrait has been trained to one central focal point, so that when a viewer steps in front of the piece, they activate the space and bring the conversation together, thus becoming the final chain link.
